When considering the NBA lockout, and asking if the players are making too much, if you look at the minimum salary for a player that is coming in as a rookie, and has never stepped foot in an NBA game, in 2010-2011 season, the minimum salary was $475,000. This was an increase of 8% from 2008-2009 season, where the salary was $442,000. So, as the owners are looking to decrease these numbers, players might be asking for a bit much, especially the rookies, who have never played in a game. And, it’s not only the rookies, but the veteran stars, with a minimum of 10 plus years in the league, are earning $1,352,181 per year, as of last season (even if they are injured, and aren’t playing.)
So, when looking at the lockout, wondering what can be done and where cuts can be made, the obvious answer is in player salaries. Of course there are the players that are going to make the millions, because fans want to see them on the court, and they are bringing fans into the arena, and championships to their NBA team.
